MRI EMRCompare Demo Thursday, February 12, 2009
Looking for us on the MRI HIT Listings? We are there. The Eclipsys PeakPractice software is still linked to the MediNotes name...click for the MRI HIT Listing and click on MediNotes.
Remember that Eclipsys PeakPractice, formerly BondClinician, also won first place for TEPR's Pediatric award, given together by the American Academy of Pediatrics, for the last three years! Last year, the Supply Chain Manager software also won first place for the Hot Products category.

Another Laptop with Data Stolen! Thursday, February 12, 2009
For every news story about the government stepping in and saving healthcare IT, there is another (back-page, for sure) story about a laptop with patient data that is stolen, or lost, or misplaced...
Why on EARTH is this happening? If healthcare IT (especially if the VA and other entities have the advanced applications they say they do, there would be no data on laptops. Our data is on secure servers, accessed via secure Internet connections. To allow a single human being responsibility for the data is a truly irresponsible decision--people make mistakes, and they make poor decisions.
Patients won't feel secure until every software provider takes responsibility for data security.

Immunization Connection Tuesday, February 10, 2009
I recently chatted with Nathan Bunker, at the Houston Area Immunization Partnership. He is serious about immunization registries. Each state has different requirements for its own registry, and the process has been slow.
Eclipsys Peak Practice is ahead of the pack, with connections to Florida SHOTS, Georgia GRITS, Ohio, and Colorado (some this release) and eager to do more. You can check out the conversation Here or check out the highlights below:
Immunization Handling
We've taken Pediatrics seriously, and I think you'd find the immunizations fascinating! Immunizations are recommended within the software based on our direct work with Bright Futures to develop the guidelines for patient visits, including the immunizations. Additionally, the Supply Chain Manager portion of the software recognizes the visit type when the appointment is booked and checks to ensure inventory is available. If not, an order is generated and awaits approval from the Office Manager. Each practice can determine reorder levels and staff assignments during implementation. Lot numbers for immunizations can be stored as well--which sure make contacting patients easy in the event of a recall! Of course, immunization records can be printed, faxed, or transmitted on request. Educational materials on immunizations (and everything else) are available for printing at checkout, or for the patients/caregivers to review at home via the Patient Portal.
Immunization Recommendations
Our Disease Care Reviews set triggers in the system to do several things. If a patient arrives for a visit (perhaps a sick visit) and is behind on an immunization, the provider will be flagged during the visit so that it can be taken care of or scheduled. Additionally, the system can be set up to trigger automated emails to patients/parents or alerts to staff to call/send cards, based on just about anything--age, last visit date, etc.
Immunization Registry
We're currently connected to Florida SHOTS and Ohio's immunization registry. We'd love to add more and are pursuing as clients request this very useful integration.
As you can see, we're more than enthusiastic about our pediatric software. We won first place the last several years at the TEPR conference, an award presented by Medical Records Institute and the American Association of Pediatrics. The Supply Chain Manager product also won the Hot Products award at the same conference. We were chosen by Microsoft and the American Academy of Pediatrics to be the host application for the AAP's Pediatric Office of the Future exhibit as well. The software has received 5 stars, 5 years straight from the Anderson Consulting Group annual EHR software survey.

The Ultimate Green Project Thursday, February 05, 2009
With all the talk of green products--green houses, green cars, green bathroom scrubbers--I realized that our business truly is a green project.
Then I looked at my desk.
A little embarrassed that I sell a paperless product and yet have piles stacked, I took the last hurricane day and made my personal life paperless. It was so easy! With a consistent folder structure, I can find things so much faster than shuffling through papers. I mostly need to email or fax things, so there is very little, if any, reprinting. Now that I am paperless, I quickly scan & toss most things that come through--what a great system. And I can see the items from any of my computers, too!
Medical practices have a much more daunting task than I do at home, but what happens when they commit? Easily accessible chart items. Staff can transmit items from the desktop. Items can be shared--a biller can access notes while someone else is working a referral. Physicians on call access information remotely. File rooms are converted to working space.
And at around $20 to make a chart and over $10 for a chart pull, a couple clicks start sounding pretty good!
