One of our favorite embracers of (our favorite) technology, Gregg Alexander, has some interesting thoughts about obtaining and implementing an EMR. It's worth checking out: Intelligent Healthcare Information Integration

Patients Want Continuity of Care! Saturday, January 31, 2009
I'm a mom of four boys first and foremost. My beloved family doctor moved on to another town (ironically, looking for a school embracing technology). So I have spent the last five years searching for my own continuity of care.
I want someone to treat our whole family, to look at a diagnosis with an understanding of our history (why else would I fill out all those forms?), and to relate my children to each other. I have been to practices with over ten doctors, and rarely seeing the same one twice, they are not even able to recognize why I'm coming in for follow-up visits. Even in the small, hospital-owned practice I've found and come to love, the doctors are rotated and never stay long.
I don't blame the physicians...most have had expenses skyrocket and insurance payments cut. Especially in the pediatric office, the rules are mind-boggling and the rewards fewer each year.
So as I go to my next appointment in the beautiful, new, hospital-owned building, and the doctor will refer to Riley as a girl or Camden as Cameron, and won't know that we're here for a follow-up from our specialist visit and I will have to remind her...I will know that a single application could change all that.
